Hassle

After the hassle of the previous two and a half months it was time to enjoy the experience of being ED-209. Walking around the NEC proved to be a troublesome affair with a costume as wide as two people but it didn’t stop some people wanting  a picture with me. Some of those images are here: (captions show names of photographer)

As well as wandering around, clattering people with my gun pods I entered myself into the cosplay competition and the Cosplay Masquerade. The competition was won by a woman dressed as a character from Assassin’s Creed who had put an immense amount of effort into her costume with each bead individually sewn into place. I explained to the two judges the effort that I’d put into making this behemoth but neither of them had ever seen the 1987 film Robocop so I think that put me at somewhat of a disadvantage.

Masquerade

The Masquerade saw around 50 cosplayers taking part in a show in a tented stage area. Each of the “acts” walked onto stage and performed a sketch or simply posed for the audience before heading off stage to await the results.

I was in the order around the thirty mark so had to wait a while, I took the costume top off for this waiting as it was beginning to get a little cumbersome again. It was around this time that I spoke to the organisers of the masquerade about the three steps up to the stage. As you may be aware, ED-209 droids don’t fare too well when it comes to flights of stairs so I was naturally concerned. They agreed to help guide me and make sure I wasn’t going to do a proper ED roll.

Here is a video of my Masquerade appearance videoed and uploaded to YouTube by GreatBritishGeek, thanks! I love the comments from the people sat with her when it was videoed too, “I effin love Robocop” and “most people would have just come as Robocop”

I’m on at around 10 mins 54 secs into the clip but there are more great cosplayers to check out too.

This following video is uploaded to YouTube also and is published by gxgirl-93. My appearance is on at 9 mins 45 secs and is a shorter version of the above but from a different angle and shows some of the difficulty I had getting up and down the stairs.

It’s been a fun few months and I’m planning on going to the Telford International Centre on Feb 11th 2017 for the Midlands Comic Con. Apparently there was a chap missing from Birmingham in Nov who will be at the Telford one, dressed as Robocop so it’d be good to meet up and pose for a few photos…

Thanks to all the photographers and videographers that made this possible!

If you have any photos, videos of my appearance or questions about the construction of the costume, please feel free to get in touch!!
