This week we were to discuss Artists who use their body in their work, until I had to leave to go to the hospital to be with my very sick father.
Tuesday afternoon was a dark room kind of afternoon. With the tutor being off poorly I dived into the red lighted room to create some prints.
Today’s seminar was to discuss Ethics in Photography and how it impacts all of photography including the photographer, subjects, publishers and wider world.
We were split into groups of two and tasked with discussing what we thought about a number of questions.
This week we visited our sketchbooks and understand how to produce a successful example. We also had a very personal experience with Alice sharing her practice for her Degree and Masters.
Tuesday Night Print Club saw us look into the magical world of Silk Screen Printing. Laura showed us around the Screen Printing area and helped us make sense of the overwhelming nature of everything in there. We were introduced to the equipment, processes, waste handling and just how messy it can get.
This week was packed, with some Research for year long project, reviewing our feedback from Semester 1, Riso Printing (next post) and a group crit that took up a long time but yielded some great information.
After discussing ideas for my year long project with Niki, I developed a concept around my Town Council’s recent project to replace 30 bus shelters. Sounds enthralling, no?
Alice gave us a challenge to plan a shoot and carry it out using inspiration from the surrealism lecture on Friday. See what I got up to with my wardrobe door.
This first week back took a turn for the surreal in the Friday lecture on Surreal Narratives using Duane Michals to talk us through the important points.
Sarah x 2 came to talk to us today about their practice and how they are better individual artists when working together. Oh and lots of food discussions too.
The lat Tuesday before Christmas and with some colour printing complete I stood and had an informal chat with Niki that was very enlightening.
Research is an important part of my degree course and it’s not something that comes easy to me. See how I get on looking into the work of Alma Haser.
