Semester 2 Week 8 – Finalising

From Canvas:

S2 // W8: Independent Work & Final Refinement

Continue refining your project. This is a key moment to ensure your work is resolved, coherent, and aligned with your intentions.

Student Tasks:

  • Finalise your image selection and project structure.
  • Make final edits or reworks as needed.
  • Reflect in your journal on how your work now communicates your core ideas.

The plan for today was to book a session with Jim to get the final image printed out but with my eldest brother going into hospital the day before, when the time came to book a session in SISO it was fully booked out.

I got into the basement and wasn’t the first for a change. I didn’t get home from Watford until 3am so was feeling a bit knackered this morning. I sat at the tall tables and finished off the journal/blog post about Coventry visit last week.

Looking at next week I need to also prepare a review so will look into that while I am here also. Gavin is in today too so will try and catch him for a chat about the project and what happens next.

After a search on the web for the prices to print my large image. I was looking at an A0 image and checked a couple of websites. The cost of a print alone was £202 at Loxley, £240 on SAAL Digital. Jim was at his office in the afternoon so I visited and found that his price was £65 for a Matt White Paper with an Unglazed Frame.

After paying my fee to Jim I headed back to the basement for a chat with Gavin about current state of project, and the review for next week. He said that as I’m not displaying in the degree show I don’t necessarily need to complete the form and prep work for display, but it woul dbe good to see an update of the work I’ve selected. Gavin is happy that I have enough work for now for the Shirehall projects as I “live and breathe it” at the moment.

I’m posting out two images per day onto Instagram from my 2048 longest edge exported files. I’m having some engagement at the moment and I hope that it continues.

After this it was time to write up a few notes and then jumped into the car for the journey home where I sat and then tidied up my notes.

I await to see how my print comes out and will revisit Jim in week 9 after I have presented at the review.

Coming up this weekend is the Photography Show and then a trip to Leeds for the Photo North Fest.
