This week saw a fun packed morning in the 2nd floor room writing some of our dissertations. My diss is about grief and the help or hindrance provided by photography.
Dissertation
I got on with some writing of some of my chapters around what is grief, how is grief experienced and whether it is possible to grieve for an inanimate object like a building.
I found a couple of extra reference pieces that will come in handy, one on the destruction of Palmyra by the Islamic State in 2015, and another about the destruction of Finnish Modernist Churches.
Some of the group chose to dress up in costumes for Halloween as this is coming up at the end of the week. Some of the make up was a bit scary with some serious looking flesh wounds being created with liquid latex. One person had chosen to dress as a banana, one a walking dead zombie, another seemed to be a rather frightening person with a cape and in some cases coloured contact lenses.
They all had a photo shoot session downstairs but I was not alone in not dressing for the occasion, I was in my jeans and t-shirt, I’m not being forced to have fun only at halloween. Fuck da man!!

Whilst writing up the notes on the research from the sources I was able to have. a quick chat with Gavin about the diss and he was telling me how Pam Flett used a writing style where it consists of many foot notes so I should have. a look at this. This came about as I was discussing that my writing consisted of experiences that I was noting down and Gavin said that if I wanted more of my voice, (I don’t), then I could use footnotes.
Processed Pictures
After lunch I headed down to the basement with my roll of Ilford PanF+ 50 to get it processed and then ready for the scanners afterwards.
I used Massive Dev Chart to work out that the film needed 8 mins 30 seconds in the D-76 and then went through the motions with the stop and fix before dropping it into the cabinet dryer to warm up and dry off.

Once it was complete I cut them into fours and then place them in the binder sleeves, then it was time to scan them in.

Local Images
On the way into the uni this morning I walked past a pile of junk in the gutter that looked like some fly tipping of kids toys. I stopped here and used my mobile phone camera to capture a couple of images, as they were quite intirguing with the mixture of plastic toy parts and autumn leaves.
The Molineux stadium was having a bit of a paint refresh last week and I noticed that two similar parts of the stand structure were different in terms of progress. One was unpainted and tired looking whilst the other was freshly painted. I could have spent a while trying to get the pictures at exactly the same angle but I was pre-occupied getting to the uni on time.

Same Bat Time, Same Bat Classroom
Next week is a usual morning writing retreat to get on with the next chapter of the dissertation, and in the afternoon is a talk in the lecture theatre by a well known photographer that I will sit in on to gather some further research.
