Dissertation Tuning and Exhibition Prep
Into uni this morning and up into MK202 to get on with some dissertation and research more about the references I need for the essay.

Exhibition Prep
I went to see Tom up the stairs to see if my work was completed, and I met Tom, for the first time. He said he’d made my frame and would be taking them back to Jim later on in the day. Mine wasn’t ready yet, and there were a few more for him to do.
Dissertation Tutorial
Spoke to Gavin about the dissertation and I asked him about the last section where I have a framework to help with grief around the building demolition. I thought that I may have been getting too specific and dogged down in the details so we discussed keeping it a bit wider and as long as it links back to a point in the earlier paragraphs then it would be good.
Gavin showed me a framework from Photovoice about a project for Miners in Venezuela.
The diagram below shows how a Photovoice project is undertaken and Gavin said that this might be a good method to show the framework. Not copying it exactly but using it as a base for a diagram.

We talked about the first phase being a meeting with the stakeholders and then the phases afterwards that would align to the sections and the information that I have collected in the previous chapters of the dissertation.

After the discussion about the dissertation I mentioned to Gavin that I’d seen his work on instagram regarding a community clean up in the alleyway behind his Birmingham house that tidied up and cleansed an area of their environment.
Bookish
Once I’d finished my research I headed over to the Harrison Library to take out two books, Concrete Concept by Christopher Beanland and Telford – The Making Of A New Town by Maurice De Soissons
With a bit of time until the 2pm session in the lecture theatre, I headed to the Luna Lounge for a zero alcohol drink and a read of the Concrete Concept book which was interesting in the method that he speaks about Birmingham and its history. It is full of wonderful photos of Brutalist buildings throughout the world.

PM Time
In the afternoon Euripides gathered us together in the Lecture Theatre to discuss the interim exhibition and the preparation.
First up was Fundraising, how can we raise the money for the Degree Show exhibition, we would need a budget of between £200 – £250 for the degree show, printing, framing, and the catalogue which would cost around £50 for each of the artists.
If anyone wants to help with the design of catalogue and has an interest in the design process can meet with Euripides.

More often than not, money is usually left over and can be spent on nice things for the show, last year there was £300 left over in the budget so it was spent on strawberries as that was what was on the front cover of the degree show catalogue.
The group agreed to do some fundraising, some people who have budgeted for it might not want to be involved. A whatsapp chat group has now been set up for sharing ideas and a few were tabled in the meeting.
- Throw wet sponges at lecturers
- Holding lecturer hostage for ransom
- Bake sale on the interview date
- Photobooth
- Headshots in the studio
The group will need a treasurer for collecting the money from the catalogue. Gather the monies for the project.
Next Wednesday is the opening of the exhibition and christmas party between 5pm and 8pm?
Secret Santa gift handover will take place next week at the Christmas party, we should pick up something from a charity shop, something from home that you no longer need or something from a shop at a value of less than £5.
Exhibition will be open up until middle of January in the foyer of the MK Building. Not much work was needed on the board, just some filler in a few little holes in the top corners.

Once we were done here it was time to get back to the car, get home and get on with some dissertation.
